I suppose I’m sorry I took them
from your soft, pink lips,
but I did and I have
for 10,401 days now
and counting.
You’ve told friends and family
so often now,
“Don’t encourage him!” with
a tight grin across your face
and a challenge in your eyes.
So, I’m sorry I suppose
for when you've curled up on yourself
or even just those soft chuckling head shakes,
but I’ll try to do it again tomorrow
because a promise is a promise.
